My projects

These are projects (DIY, homemade, what have you) I've been working on the past few years or just started today. In 2010, I've realized that I spend too much money on DIY projects so going forward I need to pay more attention to intentions, goals, and most of all, my time and money.

See Cargo bikes below.

Bicycling in Chicago

  • Building a Hackintosh - The goal of this project is to build a fast computer that runs Mac OS X so I can upload more photos faster as well as create more videos more often. I abandoned it after two years because of the constant frustration in ensuring it ran well.

I like to draw cities, trains, and highways from a bird's eye view.

K'NEX creations

  • Lift bridge
  • Suspended monorail. Photos
  • Suspension bridge. Photo

I like to take a lot of pictures of things I see in Chicago, and transit facilities around the country. You can view them on my Flickr.

Current cameras

I own two digital cameras now.

  • Panasonic GH1, since January 2012. I don't have a lens right now, but I will be getting the 20mm f/1.7 very soon.
  • Olympus EVOLT E-500, since 2006, have two kit lenses. I still use this.
Past cameras
  • Agfa ePhoto 780, from 2000. I no longer own this.
  • Fuji FinePix F50fd, from 2007. The lens cover stopped working and I bought a new camera with HD video; I recycled this one.
  • Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V, since April 2010. I traded this with West Town Bikes to get a new Fuji Royale bike frame.

My writing

  • Bike Parking Equity - Master's project for urban planning graduate school at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
  • Steven Can Plan - A blog about planning school experiences and transit and bicycling-related travels across the United States.
  • Grid Chicago - A blog I co-author with John Greenfield about sustainable transportation in Chicagoland.

Cargo bikes

Do you have a cargo bike? Which one and what are the top 5 reasons to choose that kind. What are the top 5 to not choose it? Leave your input on the Cargo Bike flowchart.

Yuba Mundo

I picked and rode my Yuba Mundo for the first time from Blue City Cycles in Bridgeport (Chicago), Illinois, on Friday, June 7, 2010. In this section, I will list my specifications and modifications.

WorkCyclces Fr8

I brought a WorkCycles Fr8 cargo bike home from Amsterdam in August 2012.
